Welcome to St Augustine's Anglican Church

St. Augustine’s is a fast-growing, lively church with many activities happening during the week, catering for all age groups. We love to have visitors. You are welcome to join us at worship – we have several different weekly worship services ranging from traditional to contemporary in style. Come along at any time to enjoy our beautiful church building which is open every day. We regularly offer the Alpha Programme for those who want to explore the Christian faith. We have many small groups that provide opportunities for developing friendships and for growing in faith together. We also have active ministries for children, youth and young adults.

From the Vicar, Sept 7th

On this day, Father’s Day, when Fathers are acknowledged and celebrated, we are pleased to be having a ‘Kiwi Blokes’ theme to our services.
Men will be contributing in many ways in our services of worship today. Thanks for all the effort that has been put in with music, prayers, service leading and with decking out the church for today.  I particularly want to thank those men who in different services today are giving a personal
testimony about the difference that their Christian faith makes in their own lives.  I know that will be inspiring for us all.
Being a Christian is not highly valued in our culture, and in particular being an active Christian is not always seen as being manly.  It is good for us to challenge that perception.  To be a Christian man is a manly choice, it is to use all of the God-given attributes that we have to help bring about what is best for God and for God’s world.  To be a Christian man is to chose to stand up for what is right and to be part of a great purpose.  God needs men, just as God also needs women.

Next Sunday our 11am and 5.30pm services will be lead by the youth, who always do a great job of leading our worship.  The 8am and 9.15am services will be Holy Communion as usual.

    Yours in Christ, Philip

From the Vicar, 31st August

This weekend is a very special one for the Diocese of Christchurch with the installation of our new bishop, The Rt. Rev.Victoria Matthews.
Please continue to pray for Victoria as she begins her ministry in this diocese as our leader and shepherd.
Our Diocesan Synod meets next weekend, please also pray for that meeting, that it may be a gathering of unity and vision at this time of new beginning in the life of the diocese.

Here at St. Augustine’s next Sunday we pick up the opportunity that Father’s Day gives us to focus on ministry among men.  Therefore our services will have the theme of ‘Kiwi Blokes Sunday’.  Some of the men in the church will be sharing a testimony of what difference their faith makes for them in their everyday life.  Men will also be contributing in other ways in our services and the church will be decorated in ‘blokey’ fashion.  These services provide a great opportunity to invite along men who do not regularly attend church and for whole families to enjoy worship together.

   Yours in Christ,

Verse of The Day

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” (Psalm 143:10)
