Welcome to Spring! It’s a great lift for everyone as we enter this season of new growth, longer days, and, hopefully, warmer temperatures! We also have a lot happening in the parish over the next few weeks. Today is also Fathers Day, an opportunity to give thanks for all that our fathers have worked in our lives. It is a real encouragement to have Mark Cornellison preaching today in our services, sharing something of his own story and also his hopes for ministry among men in the parish. The second of Ron Hay’s Discipleship Seminar Series is on this coming Thursday, 7.30pm, in the Hannan Centre. It’s not too late to join in this helpful series of faith-building seminars. The theme this week is ‘Growing Our Faith’. The 3rd and final seminar on Sept. 23rd, will be on the topic ‘Sharing Our Faith’. Next Sunday we also begin a Sermon series on ‘Tough Questions’ – a great series to invite other people along to. Yours in Christ, Philip |

In September we are delighted to have Ron Hay leading a series of Christian growth seminars (here at St Augustines). The remaining two areas Ron will be leading us through are: Thursday, 9 September: Growing our Faith (What spiritual disciplines do we need, and how do we face the challenges to our faith?) Thursday, 23 September: Sharing our Faith (Why should we share our faith and how can we do this in a way that builds rather than breaks friendships?) This is a great opportunity to equip ourselves with knowledge and confidence when it comes to our faith. Each session will be in the Hannan Centre starting at 7. 30pm (for the spiritual food) and ending with supper (for the tummy food!!) We look forward to you joining us!! |

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news – Isaiah 52:7 (NIV) Auction & Diocesan Quiz for Mission: held Saturday 7 August. A team of 4 from St Augustine’s was significantly disadvantaged to the Anglican Centre team who had 11 members & of course came home in 1st place. Our team did very well being only 9 points down on the winners score. Congratulations, you should be proud and thank you for participating. About 22 teams took part. A week later S. T. A. M. P. got behind Megan Tapper & her Quiz evening re Encounter 2010 trip. This was a very enjoyable evening & who was that guy on the mic - had we really seen him somewhere before? Common Life Mission Conference: 19 - 22 July 2011 at Waikanae (a lovely venue) Shaping the Church for Mission This promises to be a really inspiring event next year with Mission leaders from around the world present-you can be there too! See details elsewhere; book early to get best deals. JMMH: discussions are currently in progress between S. T. A. M. P. & Vestry in regard to recent matters locally & in India. Please pray for God’s way in it all. An extensive report was recently received re the children-all are progressing well. Several new children have been accepted in. The report will be made available when I find it again- Ed. The next parish ST trip to India has been confirmed 2011/12 and is attracting keen interest but currently awaits key information prior to being launched - watch this space. Our Friends: recent visit was a bonus for the parish, not expecting them home for some years. Their update at all services on 25th July was certainly appreciated after news about health concerns and the situation they encountered on the field. Thank God for answered prayers. On the evening of the 26th many enjoyed their company again at a social gathering in Faye & Stuart’s home. Those present enjoyed more pics & relaxed informal discussion that was much appreciated. After a delicious supper we upheld the family, their friends overseas and their work in a special time of prayer. Our visitors returned to Wellington the next day in search of their children and a Nanna. Thanks: our visitors wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the parish for hospitality & especially to Gordon, Susie & family. Thank you also to the kind folk in home groups who gave so generously. It’s amazing how a few coins soon add up. $695 was presented to our friends as a love offering on the occasion of their visit. S. T. A. M. P. has agreed that monies from the second half year will go to JMMH. Furthermore, a special thank you to Vestry who generously covered the cost of airfares - Thank you all! - 2 Cor. 9:9 Encounter 2010 - Cambodia: Megan’s funding quiz, 14 August was very successful. She has been invited to the next S. T. A. M. P. meeting to share her vision - all welcome. Mission Month: September is mission month in the diocese and S. T. A. M. P. is planning a special mission service which is set for 7 p. m. 19 September in the Church. S. T. A. M. P Notice Board: make sure you read the current display featuring the John Morrison Memorial Home in India. Read about the Tripp’s in Cambodia on the reverse. |
