Welcome to St Augustine's Anglican Church Hi and welcome to St. Augustine’s. We are delighted to share this place of worship with you. We hope you enjoy the beauty of the architecture, which is built to honour God. Feel free to look around, sit, pray and soak up the tranquility of this beautiful place. Even more, we hope that you will get to know us and join in the life of this church family. We love to welcome and include people and to offer something for people of all ages. This includes worship services of various styles, small groups that provide friendship and teaching, and many other activities. Most of all, we hope that you may grow closer to our Lord Jesus Christ – building your knowledge of God and being open to all that the Holy Spirit wants to do in you and through you. As a church, we are excited about the mission that God calls all Christians to – to be agents of God’s love and truth to a needy world. We believe that this is what the church exists for. We would love you to become part of that with us.
May the Lord bless you with his peace and grace.

Welcome to Spring! It’s a great lift for everyone as we enter this season of new growth, longer days, and, hopefully, warmer temperatures! We also have a lot happening in the parish over the next few weeks. Today is also Fathers Day, an opportunity to give thanks for all that our fathers have worked in our lives. It is a real encouragement to have Mark Cornellison preaching today in our services, sharing something of his own story and also his hopes for ministry among men in the parish. The second of Ron Hay’s Discipleship Seminar Series is on this coming Thursday, 7.30pm, in the Hannan Centre. It’s not too late to join in this helpful series of faith-building seminars. The theme this week is ‘Growing Our Faith’. The 3rd and final seminar on Sept. 23rd, will be on the topic ‘Sharing Our Faith’. Next Sunday we also begin a Sermon series on ‘Tough Questions’ – a great series to invite other people along to. Yours in Christ, Philip |

Tonight the Youth have their ‘Connect’ Service at 6pm. It’s great to see this becoming a more regular feature of our Youth programme. A reminder that this coming Thursday at 7.30pm in the Hannan Centre is the first of a trilogy of Discipleship Seminars led by Ron Hay. Do get along for that food for faith. It will be helpful for planning if you can indicate your intention to come on the clipboard at the back of the church. Next Sunday is Fathers’ Day. Mark Cornellison, of our 11am congregation, will be preaching in all services. Mark will be sharing a bit of his story and what he believes God has in store for the men of St Augs. Charisa Cornellison will be leading worship at 11am. They promise to talk with their best kiwi English! Sunday 12th September will be the first of a series of 5 Sundays addressing some ‘Tough Questions’. Look out for the insert with this newsletter for more details. This would be a great series to invite any friends to who are seeking answers on the difficult questions of faith. Next weekend our Diocesan Synod is held, that is sort of like the AGM of the diocese. Please pray for that gathering of representatives from all the parishes of the diocese. Yours in Christ, Philip |

In September we will be running three Discipleship Seminars on Thursday evenings. These seminars will be led by Ron Hay and provide an opportunity for all church members to deepen their Christian life. I am thrilled that we can benefit from Ron’s teaching skills for this focus on Discipleship. More details are found on the insert in the newsletter. I encourage you to ring the dates in your diary and plan to be there. The Bible Studies on Biblical Economics that I have been preparing as a result of my Study Leave are being used by a number of our Small Groups. The first seven studies are now available (on the topics Ownership, Wealth Creation, Caring for Those in Need, Consumerism & Sustainability, Worship & Justice, Work, and Generosity). The remaining three studies (on Debt, Leadership, and Jubilee) will be completed soon. Group leaders can obtain from me printed copies for their groups as you need them. Yours in Christ, Philip |

At 7pm tonight we have our monthly Healing Service, held in the Hannan Centre, off the back of the church. Tonight Andrew Fee will be concluding the series of teaching he has been giving on inner healing; many thanks to Andrew for passing on his learnings in this area. The service also offers a time of gentle worship and opportunity to receive prayer for healing. The healing ministry of the church is an important part of what we do. That ministry includes many aspects: - the friendship, fellowship and support offered by church members to one another. - the prayerful concern for one another found in our Small Groups. - the pastoral support offered by clergy and others at times of particular need. - the prayer ministry and support which is available at most of our worship services. - more in-depth prayer ministry offered by church members who have been trained in that particular ministry. - the ministry of anointing with oil for healing. - opportunities for referral for Christian-based counselling. - our monthly 7pm service which has a particular focus on healing. Part of our mission statement is that we want to help to make people whole. Indeed Jesus came for that purpose of bringing all people into the fullness of life that we were created to enjoy under God. For this reason the ministry of healing (of body, mind and spirit) is a vital and precious outworking of our calling as the church. Yours in Christ, Philip |

Tania Gardiner has been on our Staff Team as Youth Intern for about 3 years, working alongside our Youth Pastor in various capacities and having a mentoring role with young people at Cashmere Primary School. Tania has recently made the decision to step down from her role on our Staff and focus on completing her studies towards a Bachelor of Ministry. Therefore Tania will be finishing as Youth Intern in a couple of weeks time. A big thank you to Tania for all that she has contributed to our young people. I am very pleased that Tania will continue to be an active member of our church family. Today marks the end of Maori Language Week. In our 9.15am and 11am services today we will have some elements of our worship in Maori language. These are included in a separate handout this morning. Kia tau tonu te rangimarie o te Ariki ki a koutou. (The peace of Christ be always with you) Philip |
